Right then, fans of food. Here goes nothing.
This is my first attempt at blogging seriously and my subject of choice is food. We all eat, we all have individual tastes and most of us strive to keep costs down at a time when affording luxuries is just not on the cards. As a full time student, employee and mother of four, I struggle as much as the next person to create low cost meals which satisfy all of the individual tastes of my kids, one of whom is a vegetarian and all of whom are sweet lovers.
Having looked back over my facebook page, I have noticed that the
majority of my posts are food and drink related, either a mention of a
meal I have had out somewhere, or more often my own creations, so I am
attempting to move this onto this dedicated food blog.
My main feeding tactic is to try and avoid fast food and easy-cook meals for them as they can work out as expensive and usually don't meet the criteria set by at least one of the little people. What I usually try and do is create a selection of foods which they can choose to have or not - although I make sure they all eat their veg without fail.
I am typically an alchemist in the kitchen, preferring the 'throw it in' method of cooking against the more traditional measuring and recipe following, and can honestly say that I have never had a food fail. That isn't to say that I won't one day, but fingers are crossed.
I am going to buy a set of accurate kitchen scales when I get paid on Wednesday and from then on will try and record my kitcken alchemy for my followers, if there are ever any. This will most likely involve weighing packets before and after I have used them and I will be as accurate as I can so you can re-use my recipes and share in the joys of my success.
As for now, I will post some pictures of a lovely apple and maple syrup cake I made today to use up wrinkly apples from the bottom of my fruit bowl, nad a lush quinoa and broad bean salad I made to use up the last of my mum's organic box veg that she donated to me. This salad proved to be a surprise success wth my second and most fussy child eater. Who knew?
Recipes will be as complete as possible and will come with lots of pictures, so watch this space!
